And at least the top layer of a Double Decker can be broken down by human saliva smiley - smiley

Oh good lord, ZZZ - you've only just drawn my attention to the fact that the Trio seems to have disappeared and I feel bereft! When did it happen?!

I remember Spangles and their comeback, but I didn't try them 2nd time around. I was disappointed that the put all one flavour in a pack. Does anyone remember Old English Spangles? I think this is where the beige ones came in. They were strange flavours, I even think one of them tasted medicinal. smiley - yuk

There's obviously a few chocoholics out there

I'm glad to see that you can still buy Curly Wurly even if it has shrunk.

War heads rock. We also have a confectionary of a similar ilk to 'hanky panky' by the sound of it. they're called 'lolly gobble bliss bombs' and are toffee coated popcorn, or it might be caramel coated, not sure lots and lots of sugar though,YAY.smiley - biggrin

Newberry Fruits. My mum used to buy them at Christmas. I haven't seen them for years. Lovely liquid fruit centres and jelly sweets on the outside. smiley - cheers

I remember how I used to eat them. Very carefully bite and suck all of the jelly off until you just had a crisp shelled globe in your mouth and then when you crunched it all of the fruity liquid spread out over your tongue. Mmmmm.

Rains - Wondering where time's going and why it's in so much of a hurry!

Never heard of those, but they sound nice smiley - ok. Any sweet you can eat in stages like that is cool!

Pacers?

Were they the green-and-white stripey ones which were minty, similar in size and texture to Opal Fruits (as they were - I refuse to call them Starburst!). I remember eating them when I was about 5, but I can't remember what they were called!

Newberry Fruits came in a box, like a box of chocolates. Can't even remember who made them.

Pacers - you were right, I checked on the net and came upon this entry on a nostalgic sweet site. www nostalgiacentral.com

Opal Mints/Pacers - Started off with a spearmint leaf motif on the wrappers as a purely white minty alternative to Opal Fruits (with lots of ice-oriented TV advertising). Then along came a name change and then the green spearmint stripe. The adverts for the new look Pacer featured the old trusty people in white on ice skates suddenly being hit by green, at which point their t-shirts became green and white striped. Tasted like a tube of Colgate toothpaste dissolved in a swimming pool.

Yes - they *were* the ones! smiley - cheers

I remember being given some for a treat after having some vaccinations.... At least, I think they were a treat smiley - winkeye

Here's one to throw into the pile.... Does anyone remember Jolly Ranchers?

(I'll leave the puns to everyone else smiley - biggrin)

I know that this thread is aobu tsweets that used to be but I wondered if anyone, who like me, has come across sweets that never should have been.
A bloke in the office came back off holiday and brought back an assortment of Fishermen's Friends (various flavours!) and some other stuff from scandinavia called djungle something or other. They were black and sugar coated (or so I thought) and I popped one in my mouth.

It's a strange sensation to have something in your mouth which is nothing like what you expected and you don't know what to do with it as spitting in public is still frowned upon.

The sugarwas, in fact, salt and the black stuff was liquorice. I'm into Liquorice Allsorts but this was a totally different experience.

We then used them to play wicked tricks on visitors to the office to see their reaction.

My son had come across them at school and apparently one of the teachers uses them as a punishment for naughty children. Cruel and unusual or what?

Pimms

... those foamy pink shrimp shapes in the pick 'n mix, those pastel-coloured ricepaper flying saucers with sherbert in, elastic bracelets with crunchy sweets you could bite off, or hard glossy burgundy aniseed balls with an actual seed in the middle that you could bite...

I'm not saying you can't still get these, but I haven't eaten any of them for years smiley - sadface

Pimms smiley - ok

Salty liquorice allsorts are just *wrong*, but one way of stopping people nicking your sweets.

I used to love those flying saucers - mmm, taste those e-numbers! You don't seem to see those or aniseed balls around much anymore, though. I too haven't eaten any for far too long......

Does anyone remember Treets? I've just looked at the nostalgia site mentioned earlier in this thread and they're described as "near-spherical chocolate/nut/toffee lumps, "sealed in a crispy shell"". Thing is, in my memory they didn't have a crispy shell - I remember them as being exactly like the chocolate, peanut & toffee ones in a bag of Revels. Is it just me?

Please, somebody, vindicate my memory!

Deborah smiley - towel

Sorry! Treets were definitely crispy with the melt in the mouth not in the hand type covering

Treets - I remember 2 sorts. The chocolate variety which have been re-named Minstrels and Peanut & Toffee ones. I think they had a crispy shell though. Sorry to disappoint Deborah. smiley - cry

Oh gosh, Jolly Ranchers! They were brightly-coloured fruit sweets weren't they? Wasn't there a watermelon flavour? My brain associates them with disappointment, so I think they can't have lived up to the bright turquoisey packaging.

Sweets which should never have been made: Any of those 'combination' sweets, such as chocolate limes or blackcurrant and liquorice.

Chocolate limes truly are smiley - yuk. You do have to wonder who thought that one up. Though I've always found mint toffees to be another slightly odd combination.

Jolly Ranchers didn't last that long... I vaguely remember the watermelon flavour, too. I think the name kind of helped them die here!
