And anyways, I find that while the majority of the populace may be pompous, mcdonald's feasting, jack@$$s there are good people (like myself) who (like myself) find themselves more at home talking with the more enlightened and wise people like ... oh say... T.B. Falsename.

Depends on how you define culturally american. I enjoy Douglas Adams and Monty Python more than say... Stephan King or Dean Koontz.
