Falling Down – 1993
Falling Down is the story of an everyday man. Michael Douglas in one of his finest performances, is William Foster, a defense contractor, who when trapped in the daily LA gridlock, snaps and decides to walk to work. This becomes a journey through various neighborhoods, and through various examples of American society. He meets incompetent store clerks, violent youths and a demented war veteran, each one bringing further and further down into insanity.
This film makes a serious and effective comment about American culture that could be compared to American History X and American beauty. Director Joel Schumacher presents this story of a regular guy falling apart under the strains of modern life, with real impact and meaning. 9/10
