Great article. How lovely to read about compost when I've spent most of my weekend spreading it all over my veg beds 
It must be almost spring 
I ALWAYS put pretty fresh manure into my compost: it really helps break down the rest of the stuff in there, and adds instant heat. I know you said no faeces of pets or humans, but horses and cows and chooks can be pets and their poo is wonderful stuff! 
Next weekend is my first sowing weekend of the new season: tomatoes, chillis, capsicums, eggplant all set to go And we all come to life again...
