totally unconnected personal note I've done shows with the civil war society at Bolton Castle, Barnard's Castle and Tutbury - but I fractured my spine at Tutbury which put an end to my pike carrying days.
(Naturally I wasn't on the boring side)

Sounds fun - my Dad was also in a Civil War re-enactment society, but the wrong Civil War (the American one). American Civil War societies in England not only seem a little pointless but odd as 99% of re-enacters are on the losing Confederate side. But he got to enjoy day trips on HMS Warrior, Fort Nelson and Fort Brockhurst around Portsmouth.

Thats the trouble with civil war societies - there's boring and right, or flamboyent but wrong.

True - not to mention the fact that absolutely everything these days is so expensive. It's not a cheap hobby!

It might be worth a footnote to explain the word 'slighted'.
Some nitpicking:
a castle which central point --> a castle whose central point
Guard's --> guards'
akehouse --> bakehouse
etc. --> etc
Sir Richard Scrope also has a successful career --> Sir Richard Scrope also had a successful career
is also made Earl of Wiltshire --> was also made Earl of Wiltshire
to wonder the surrounding lands --> to wander the surrounding lands
never paid in his life --> never paid in his lifetime
the 5th Duke inherited --> the 5th Duke, inherited
Sir Francis Knolly --- should this be Sir Francis Knollys, as you use Knollys in two other places?

Your Guide Entry has just been picked from Peer Review by one of our Scouts, and is now heading off into the Editorial Process, which ends with publication in the Edited Guide. We've therefore moved this Review Conversation out of Peer Review and to the entry itself.
If you'd like to know what happens now, check out the page on 'What Happens after your Entry has been Recommended?' at EditedGuide-Process. We hope this explains everything.
Thanks for contributing to the Edited Guide!
