Hi Runescribe!

I like it! Have you been on a trip recently then? Have you been to more than one hostel, or might this just apply to the hostel you went to? Just checking.

I think the introduction could do with a little bit of an explanation of what a Youth Hostel is, and definitely with a link to the website. Also, I'm wondering if the title should specify that it is UK specific - presumably in other countries the bedding is slightly different.

PS. Hope you're having a good term so far. Going to any of the Roses? I went abseiling off Central Hall yesterday. smiley - biggrin

I have been to many many youth hostels - maybe three a year for fourteen years. All YHA hostels have the sleeping bags.

I was originally intending to do a proper projct on the YHA, but I don't think I'll ever get round to it, so I thought I'd try and get this one through on its own.

This is a most excellent Entry! smiley - ok I used to help my parents run a Youth Hostel when I was younger, and these sheets were the bane of my existence - as I had to help make them neat from when they came back from the launders...

Unfolding them and making them turn the right side round and be easy to iron was a terrible chore.

A problem you don't mention is the one of unmentionable stains...smiley - laugh
and the fact that sometimes no matter how much they are washed, some of the sleepsheets come back with things in the corners - like hairy balls of something or other, or old dried up cornflakes and the like smiley - ill

Nice one though smiley - smiley Perhaps as you're were going to a do a YHA Entry but found it too massive, you could look at a collection of Entries on Youth Hostelling in general, some ideas could be;

- how to talk to fellow hostellers (which one's to talk to and which one's to avoid...)

- how to make best use of the hostel ammenities, the 'lounge', 'games room' and 'kitchen/dining room'

- advice on sleeping arrangements (you don't mention in this Entry that the dorms are usually male or female, and in only some Youth Hostels can 'family rooms' be found), such as how to put up with snoring/farting/burping/ignorant hostellers in your dorm

- the trials and tribulations of toileting/showering/bathing at a Youth Hostel

I'd love to see more on Youth Hostels in the EG - and have a wealth of stories if you'd like some input on the subject smiley - smiley

Good luck with this Entry smiley - ok

Secretly Not Here Any More

Great entry. As someone who's usually too long for a single bed, may I suggest taking your own lightweight sleeping bag (you can get ones that compacts down to the size of a small ladies handbag) and propping your rucksack up against the foot of the bed, thus providing an extra little "shelf" to rest your feet on?

I enjoyed reading this, although I didn't understand the description of the pocket until I read that's where the pillow went. I assumed as I read it that it was an internal pocket for who knows what reason!

I am a member of the YHA, but can't use them because they don't allow dogs. The membership is a side-effect of my son's summer camp, but at least it gets me a discount in some stores.

Just checking you're still around Runescribe? This entry is looking good, but none of the comments have been addressed.

I've addressed most of the comments now, but I'm finding it hard to summarise the YHA for the first paragraph *scurries off to see if an entry on the YHS itself is feasible*

I think a footnote or something would suffice.

Otherwise, I think this is ready to go. smiley - smiley

Very clearly explained.

Just a typo or two:

Intro 1st line: [bunk beds]

What's It For? last word: [manageable]

But It's Not Long Enough 2nd line: <If you are likely to go hostelling a lot, you can buy yourself a longer sheet sleeping bag, and you might want to consider a lightweight, compact sleeping bag (the ordinary kind!).

Might read better like this: 'If you are likely to go hostelling a lot, you can buy yourself a longer sheet sleeping bag - you might want to consider a lightweight, compact one (the ordinary kind!).'

But It's Not Long Enough: Full stop missing at end para.

Footnote 1: (And pink!) An exclamation mark might add a touch of humour...

Great entry, wish I had known before I went to the YHA last month smiley - winkeye

You say:

>>then the sheet sleeping bag is likely to be cramped<<

I don't think it's the sleeping bag that is cramped, but the person in it?

And you haven't come back to the question about what a reasonable interval for washing the bedding is?

To be honest, I'd have assumed it's washed quite often, especially in youth hostels with a large number of people from abroad who don't necessarily know they're supposed to sleep under the sheet.
