For those of you who met Ellie.
Genie Started conversation Sep 22, 2004
Ellie has been feeling unwell for a little while now, and last week suffered her 2nd thought-to-be epheleptic fit.
An ambulance took her to Hospital where she has been for a week and suffered 3 subsequent fits.
Yesterday she had an MRI scan which has revealed a large tumour on the right hand side of her brain.
Today she is having surgery to obtain a biopsy of the tumour. At this point they are not sure it is going to be treatable.
Anyway just thought I would let anyone who met her know...

I saw Ellie on Friday, although terrified, she's in good spirits and passes on her thanks for your thoughts.
She is being transferred to a Neurological hospital today and they will be operating tomorrow to try and get a biopsy of the tumour, however because they don't know what its interferring with etc, there is a very strong possibility that if the surgery is successful she will be left brain damaged...
Sorry I know I sound very cold, but its not over until the fat lady sings and we're being positive until the last..
Thank you for your kind words.

I'll be thinking of her too, and sending out my thoughts and best wishes that everying goes well Doctors do tend to often give the 'worse case synario', My Dad almost seemed disapointed when I wasn't brain dammaged (honest, I'm not), when I came out of all my neuro opperations and stuff; the docs had kept telling him there was a larger than 50% chance of perminant brain damage and it didn't turn out to be the case (any brain damage I have now is purely self-inflicted )

: I was actually* like this before; One of my Fathers best comments to the surgin/neurologist was when the surgin/neurologist, attempting to get an idea of if I'd been brain dammaged asked my Dad
'Have you noticed any changes in personality?'
To which my Dad replied;
'Unfortunately not' I do hope it all goes well for her, I was relaly shocked when I read this here Soon as she's well, we'l have to badger her with a HooToo gathering

actually 2legs you are our inspiration at the moment, to come out almost unscathed from such horrifying injuries takes a lot of inner strength... Ellie and I have often said that you are one the the most interesting people we know, and the fact that you have overcome so much, truly is inspirational to us..
Update:
I have spoken to her this morning, the neuro team only operates on a Thursday or Friday afternoon, so they're hoping to get her moved today so they can operate on Thursday. As I spoke to her she was stuffing her face with a cooked breakfast! Obviously a breakfast of champions!..
She is determined not to let the tumour win, she's definately a fighter and to know there are so many people, even those who have only met her once thinking about her is giving her the courage to continue in such a positive manner...
Thank you..

Update:
Ellie had her operation yesterday, it took 5 hours and they have managed to remove 90% of the tumour. Obviously we will be waiting a week to find out if the tumour is malignant, which will decide whether she has to start chemo...
As of last night she was awake and talking, she says that morphine is very overated and she has a stinking headache!
So I will add more as she progresses through the week and hopefully next week will be good news..
