In the U.S., a "Fanny Pack" is simply a small bag that straps around your waist.
Well, a female friend of mine didn't know that when she came to the U.S. She was amused to see a sign that said: "Fanny Packs, 5 dollars"
Or like an American friend of mine who didn't know what to say when asked if he wanted to go outside and blow a fag.

Reminds me of the time I took 2 friends from New Zealand to the Black Country Museum in the Midlands. The local speciality was on the cafe 'daily special' menu - much to their horror ... faggots and peas.
