I worked in a Coffee House over the summer with blues compilations on the random CD changer... do you know how many times I heard "Sweet Home Chicago"? Neither do I, I lost track after the first day...

Hot tamales and they're red hot
Yes she got 'em for sale!
Hot tamales and they're red hot
Yes she got 'em for sale!
Can't remember the rest of this song
Robert Johnson don't ennunciate too well...

I got a woman she's ten feet tall
she sleeps in the kitchen with her head in the hall
Hot tamales and they're red hot
Yes she got 'em for sale!

Or maybe even:

I got a woman
She's ten feet tall
She sleeps in the kitchen with her feet out in the hall
Cal'donia! Cal'donia!
What makes your big heart so hard?
But I love her, I love her just the same.
Crazy 'bout my baby and Caledonia is her name.

Five minutes of THAT riff and you'll be at the finger docor.

Blues Jam

Danisbackfromlunch

Yeah, well.... I just can't get into real country like Dolly Parton, cowboy boots and stuff like that! I'm pretty sure I have heard "Copperhead Road" but I would go out of my way to listen to it! smiley - winkeye

Right then, well try some Lyle Lovett for some of the most intelligent lyrics you'll hear anywhere, or John Hiatt for how to do country/rock crossover for real.

Alright, let's have a go at Copperhead Road - wait while I drop my 'E'-string down to 'D' for a nice drone effect - okay you finger pick a nice intro in D on an acoustic...

My name's John Lee Pedamore
Same as my daddy and his daddy before
(D minor chord sustained right in here)
You hardly ever see Grandaddy round here
He only come to town about twice a year
(D-minor)
Buy a hundred pound of yeast and some copper line
Everybody knew that he made moonshine
(D-minor)

How're ya doing there?

No, see, you start it off real quiet and then build through the verses until you let rip in the chorus. Not afraid to use dynamics is Mr. Earle. Alright, maybe you know this one (in G because that's what me mate tunes his dobro to:

Well there’s a great big mystery, and it sure is puzzlin’ me
It’s Diddy wah diddy
Diddy wah diddy
I wish someone would tell me what Diddy wah diddy means.

I went out to look around, somebody says, look who’s in town,
It’s Mister Diddy Wah diddy ……

Got a little woman about five feet four, she say come on over daddy and give somemore,
Of your Diddy wah diddy ……

**Nice slide guitar solo in here if you got a bottleneck on you**

I went to church put my hat on the seat, lady sat on it, said that sure feels neat,
Your Diddy wah diddy …..

Then I got thrown out of church, cause I talk about Diddy wah diddy too much,
Diddy wah diddy …..

There’s a great big mystery, and it sure is puzzling me,
It’s Diddy wah diddy,
Diddy wah diddy,
I wish someone would tell me what Diddy wah diddy means.

Hey, I enjoyed that. How was it for you?

Since is says it was posted yesterday, this must be tomorrow. And when I say country I'm not really talking Dolly Parton. No sir. Cowboy boots aren't bad, as even some bluesmen have been known to wear those. What I dislike about most country is that it's over produced. The lapsteel has such a full sound, putting strings and stuff in over lapsteel and banjo and guitars and base just sounds so cheesey to me. Anyone ever hear of a singer named Todd Snyder?
