In the US brownies are also a dense chocolate pastry. We have Brownies (the girl scout kind) here too but when you say the word Brownie most people will think of the cake/pastry.

*shudder* Brownies... I'm a Young Leader (I volunteered, can you believe it?) at the local pack of Brownies. They're actually thinking about changing the uniform, so they may be called "Brownies" no longer... Greenies?
