So, if Sprawling Metropolis is a mix of British and American, then what horrible amalgamated beast of a game could this 'football' be that the Magpies are playing?

Hmm...
In my mind when I wrote it, the Magpies were definitely playing 'American football' (though *very* badly). The Magpies aren't the only football team in Sprawling Metropolis though...
And you're right - a mix of American football and soccer could be dreadful. Half-an-hour of cheerleaders and pop music before every throw-in and corner
