A Conversation for The Feline and Fiddle
the quest for the plum wine continues...

Perhaps while you eat you may consider a further puzzle. I will admit to being loath to give you this as I am concerned as to the welfare of my gilt-edged frame should it hit the ground. However, here it is, and one I feel appropriate to your status as a publican.
One day, while attending to business in town, I overheard a conversation between two gentlemen, one a resident of the town and one a visitor. This conversation went thus:
"There are only four taverns in this town," the visitor was informed, "one in each street. The town's four streets meet at the crossroads at right-angles. This street is the High Street. To reach the Blue Boar from the Griffin you must turn left. To reach the Dragon from the Red Lion you have to turn right."
The visitor entered three of the pubs, turning left the first time, going straight across the second and turning right the third time. He
spent the night at the Blue Boar.
Which pub stands in the High Street?

Well I think its Red Lion, but I was waiting for someone else to answer since I posted the last one.

Cakewalker's portrait gives one final lurch and falls to the floor, onto the luckily nice soft carpet. Behind the portrait is a door with a small hole in it, in which is a small handle, set into the door to keep it flat.

*slightly dazed* Oh, erm, thankyou my good man. I seem to be alright. Though for the moment I can't remember where you go from here. Actually, I can't remember if I ever knew that in the first place.

Odds are we are supposed to turn that handle. Who's game?

I will leave that pleasure to you, Mr Menza, and I can assure you I would do the same even if I were not a painting, that is, of course, unless I felt that you would be placed in danger by such an act, in which case I would call for a waiter. Sadly, I haven't seen any for several hundred years...

Perhaps you are right, I will turn the handle. Bit I'll do it with a stick just in case.
*wonders back over to the fireside and grabs the poker*
This should do.
*walks back over to the door, stands back and prods the handle until it slowly slides downward*

*the latch clicks and the door opens a tad... far enough to see that what ever is behind it is not well lit*

*Kitty shrugs, realising he is going to have to lead the way and noses the door wider*
