Would be nice in the distant future to be able to have some way to personalize the pages. Each person could choose one of a half dozen or so different variants on the look for their own browser, at least one of which being less graphic intensive. However, if I ever get a cable modem I may not care about that anymore. On a 33 modem, it's a bit of a slow load.

Another alternative to the appearance would be to allow people to personalize their user pages a bit more. All 'approved' or 'submitted' guide entries would still look as they do now. However, personal user pages could have different background colors and maybe alternatives to the goo.

I'm just brainstorming. You asked! LOL!

Hehe, I thought I was the only one around here still using a 33.6K modem. smiley - winkeye

Geez, guys, 56k modems are like, 8 bucks. Step it up! smiley - winkeye

They may be 8 bucks where you are but while they are still 40 pounds over on this little island I'm sticking to my 33k.

Love the appearance - colours easy to read etc. (but then I have no problems with my vision)

Definitely agree about graphics intensity... are there any plans to have a minimal graphics version?

I think perhaps there are, but if so they're on the bottom of the pile of things in the works. The Powers That Be have a LOT of exciting plans for h2g2.com and some take precedence over others. I strongly feel we are on the threshold of a unique and groundbreaking way to use the Internet. And as a Field Researcher or a Sub-editor, it's great to be a part of it.

One day you'll be telling your grandchildren you were there. smiley - smiley Stay tuned! H2G2 will continue to evolve breathtakingly before you for your pleasure. Contemplate the lotus... [hehehe I'm starting to sound like a brochure!]

Is Frizzychick aware that s/he could turn off the graphics from his/her browser?
What are the acceptable gender non-specific pronouns these days?

I was always taught (badly) that for non gender to switch to group.

You could also have addressed me in the first person, and told me to disable my graphics instead. I did realise that this would be the sensible thing to do...

Anyway, I know this is going to sound obtuse, but HOW??? I know how to do it with IE, but I've been looking around Navigator and I can't find how to do it... Help please.

You think it's slow with a 33.6? Try using a 14.4 modem like I have to! I have the images turned off, but it's still slow. And before you ask, I can't afford a 56K modem 'cos they're still too expensive over here in the UK where everything costs far too much, including phone bills.

I think you wave a magic wand at Navigator in order to supress the graphics. Or was that to turn a pumpkin into Cinderella? I forget.

I would not recommend turning off the graphics. That would turn the experience of h2g2 into.. well a bunch of little boxes with x's in them where the graphics used to be. It would look like my hall closet. Not very inviting at all.

Yes, you're right. I experimented a little earlier with the graphics nobbled (IE) and it was simply not the same - no smileys!, no fish!

So *that's* why you're getting divorced... smiley - winkeye

Oh no. Actually it was my ex-wife's idea to put all those boxes with the x's in the hall closet. She has her own reasons for getting the divorce, and if I can ever get her butt here in h2g2.com I'm sure she'd be happy to detail them for you.

No, I meant...oh geez, it seemed funny at the time...say it out loud, "Boxes in the hall closet with exes in them..."

Okay, so it wasn't funny. It was worth a shot, though.

Oh I get it! You're right though it was more of an audible joke. Didn't carry over well here. smiley - smiley

I got rid of most of those exes when I cleaned my closet out of skeletons. Now they're just cluttering up the pantry...

And if you marinade them just right, they're delicious...
