I went down to the inconvenience store I work at this evening. One of my co-workers, a short, older Hispanic lady, was at the register. When I was making my purchase, she opened the cash drawer. I noticed an oddly-coloured coin in the penny compartment. I asked her to open the drawer again. She said it was just a Canadian coin. I gave her a penny and took the coin. I knew from the Spanish writing on it that it wasn't Canadian. I looked at the obverse and saw that it was a Guatamalean coin. She had no interest. Made no difference that she was wrong or that it was in the penny slot instead of off to the side where we normally put odd coins, such as dollars. Not a clue. She hadn't even looked at it and she might have just given it to a customer without thinking or caring. I find that irritating. I have collected over a hundred odd coins while on that job. It is beyond me how someone who handles money for a living can't develop any interest in anamolies.
