Correct me if I'm wrong:

This site is ran by the BBC.

BBC stands for British Broadcasting Corperation.

Paid for by the British Licence payer.

So why 2cents and not 2 pennies?

Our currency is already threatened with being replaced, would've been nice to have it 'safe' here.

a) it's an international site, which was /bought/ by the bbc

b) the phrase "two cents" is a literary expression. I'm as english as the next man, but I wouldn't say my "two pennies" worth; it's an american thing.

We called it 2cents because the majority of Researchers who used that type of comment used that phrase, no matter what country they lived in. And it's also shorter to type than which was also a deciding factor.

I never even use the smiley myself.

What all the above have in common is, that they have 8 letters or more in them, rather invalidating 6 v 8 letters a deciding factor.

I think this could all be resolved by adding as a code...

We always pick the shortest name, there's not really anyway you can shorten snowball, and I wasn't here when the other ones were named.

We don't do short codes anymore, they were causing too much trouble because our foresight glasses weren't working properly...
