River cruiser boat advice

We're considering buying a motor boat for local river cruising - like everyone else, it seems!

The search is narrowing down & we may wait for a new build. Toying between Viking 20 & Shetland 4+2, wondering if anyone has experience of either, or any other thoughts/recommendations/factors to consider.

Ta!

How big is the river? How wide, deep, and long? Does the boat have an area below the deck for living space? Will it be used for short trips or longer ones?

Just curious. smiley - bigeyes

Small river, like a canal (UK).
We're looking at a small 4 - 6 berth rear cockpit cruiser, mostly for day use but weekend & short trips further afield, just the two of us.

Good luck with your search. I have no idea about these so can't help. Why do you think there is an increased demand for these boats?

The impression is that people are spending more time at home/in the UK as can't go abroad for hols. So they're turning to alternatives like river cruising.

I read somewhere that England is crisscrossed by canals. The edited guide has an entry on the Avon, among others.

Indeed, we have had several narrowboat canal holidays. You can't go far unless you have plenty of time, as the speed limit is 4mph.
Just happens that there is a river/canal network closest to hand, which will give ample range for a short break - probably to somewhere we could as a day trip by car!
