Since when do we have to accept cookies?

Post 1

You can call me TC

I've been around this place for 20 years and as from yesterday I have been getting a pop-up window which I have to click on to say I accept Cookies etc etc. Not one window but FOUR!

I first noticed it on my phone, but the writing was so tiny I wasn't sure what it was. It (or rather they, all 4 of them) obliterated the whole screen.

So I've opened up the laptop and got the same thing. FOUR clicks to accept cookies. It is bona fide, as far as I can tell, but it is very annoying having to do it FOUR times. And how come after all these years that the smiley - hamstersmiley - hamster have only just thought of it?

The little tick in a shield logo keeps popping up all over the place whenever I go from page to page too...

That little green shield?

It isn't actually doing anything. It's not preventing anything.

It appears to be breeding. At first there's one and then you blink and they're all over the place smiley - cdoublesmiley - cdouble

There's only one a a time. I assume that it's always just the same one. Anyway, its green, and this is Spring, so I assume it's photosynthesizing. smiley - smiley

At least it now shows it as coming from h2g2, when it first appeared it didn't give a clue and I was getting ready to set Privacy Badger on it...

Also, has anyone else using the Ripley skin Brunel noticed how small the click box for [Next List] at the bottom of conversation pages has gotten recently? I thought it wasn't working at all until I noticed my cursor turning to a clicking finger just at the top of the letters.... maybe this belongs more in petty hates. smiley - laugh

The smiley - hamstersmiley - hamster are obviously getting restless. I wonder if Steve or Robbie or someone will come and make an announcement about it. If they're still there.

I don't use an ad-blocker, but it doesn't matter.

It's becoming really annoying and I think it's going to be H2G2's demise.

If an annoying pop-up chases us off after all the much more annoying things that have happened to this place, I'd be quite surprised.

But just to check in, I haven't been getting that pop-up as often lately using Brunel; just once this week so far. I did notice one of my pop-up blockers was running here even though I thought I turned them off, but this is just my work computer. I still don't see any ads in Brunel but I'd like to think h2g2 is getting some ad revenue.

I'd like to see H2G2 add revenue

I wouldn't mind the added revenue but every time I move around the site from page to page it instantly reappears even after I agree to accept it.

I've recently encountered a much more annoying issue on a few other sites. I do typically run a couple of ad-blockers on most websites, but I'll turn it off happily for websites I want to support. But on some sites, they don't give you a choice, disable your ad-blockers, or pay a subscription. I'll either smiley - elvis those sites, or I'll reluctantly disable my ad-blockers if I really want to read their article.

But on a couple of sites recently, that I white-listed, (disabled my ad-blockers for) I'm now getting pay-wall blocked even though I've disabled my ad-blockers. I even sent a screen shot to one offending site, but of course, I got no response.

I'm using Goo, and I get the cookie message when I first get here, then not again until another day. I can handle that.

It does prove Classic Goo is a superior skin though smiley - biggrin

If Girl Scouts come to my door, I may want to accept cookies from them.

Or not. It depends.
