I confess I don't watch the show, but that doesn't stop me having a strong opinion on it.

The BBC will revert to a male doctor (under public pressure) but will have learned that they must select one with gravitas and not go for the whimsical.

I predict, an internet outrage for no obvious reason whatsoever at whatever the outcome is, or was. or , even, might be. 
whoever it is, I predict, will be, whoever it is. some people will be over the moon, some people will be barking the moon, eventually, everyone will decide, or at least the majority, or a portion, at some point in the future, that it was either the best , or worse, or a completely indeferent choice. is Dr who still running as a thing then? I'd forgotten TV existed

In 2011, I found that our work contract had run dry and I was "laid off" for much of 11 months. I finally met the Dr Who world, the seasons of David Tennant and Matt Smith. Despite now being medically retired, I haven't caught any of the most recent character . . .
I might watch the next character and see how she goes. No preconceived bias or prejudice at all, I was an avid fan of Quantum Leap. Dr Beckett found himself as every form and colour of "gender" and each episode was good in its own right.
So, who will the 14th Doctor be?
