Perhaps I'm just dense...

So, the sub-editors have a name, and we know who they all are. Well and good. What exactly is it that they do?

What we do is something like what the editors do, with less power and less responsibility when we balls up.
Basically we're here to do the bulk of the editing job, correcting spelling mistakes, grammer, typos, and also most of us put it into the proper HTML format, correcting tags when they're wrong. Then we send them on to an editor who is the one that actually accepts and rejects thing, though we make recommendations, so it's quick to filter out ones that clearly don't work as entries. This also helps to ensure that the majority of rejections have a reason, and are able to see how to improve their pages and make them viable guide entries.

Luckily I always edit in my mailer. Which has as-you-type spellchecking!

Oh, and, just for reference, pedantry can only refer to the derivation of words (sic) anything else is mere pernickitiness...

In addition, there is some le-way to rewrite aspects of articles, and to create combination pieces like best curry houses, skipping stones, et al. It's more than just using a spall chucker.

We were bickering? Neat, the first public bickering among subs. I'm famous, famous I say!
You too, Ben.

Oh I already have the dubious honour of having been called sad by one of the technical bods at h2g2 for being 'one of our most active contributors'...
