Entry: B-17 Flying Fortress - A1321589
Author: Farlander - never let a disgruntled boffin play Hitman! - U206300
oh dear... here goes another of my rants! i've always loved the b-17 flying fortress and the story of the memphis belle, and since nobody's written anything about either, i've decided to tell the tale myself.
my original draft had stuff on b-17 missions - preparations made, briefing, fighter escorts and the bomb run - but i took it out for fear of losing half my audience there. should i put it back, or are things fine the way they are?
thanks
farlander.
ps: jodan, if you're reading this - i've done *all* my tags in upper caps this time!

First let me say that this is a very nice entry about one of my favourite aircraft! Really good stuff!
In your section about the B-17G, you might want to mention the addition of the chin turret as well. I don't recall seeing that there, but you *do* mention it further down in the in-depth descriptions.
Personally, I'd like to see you break out the Memphis Belle stuff as a seperate entry because it is strong enough to stand alone with links to both entries.
Perhaps still giving the Belle a brief mention under the heading 'Some of the Surviving B-17s'
But like I said, I think your research into the Belle is strong enough to carry its own Edited Entry.
Also, I believe the Confederate Air Force has a B-17 named 'Texas Raiders' that I saw at an air show in the not too distant past. I don't know if they have a website or not but it might be worth a mention too?
But as I said at the beginning, great work!

Right I don't know a lot about the topic, but I loved the entry, though it's not a topic I'm normally interested in, it held my interest and I read the whole thing.

thanks jimi! i'll go put the chin turrets bit in... hang on...
well, yeah, i *did* think that the belle bit would make a nice little article on its own, but then i was faced with the dilemma of how to extract it from the article without tearing it apart, since i did put quite a bit of info on sally and overcast as well. any suggestions?
i'll go look up texas raiders. there's a couple of other famous b-17s, including shoo shoo baby, which i didn't want to put in because the belle bit took up so much space, but if i were to *remove* most of the belle bit, i guess that would free up a bit of space... erm, maybe i should list *all* the survivors, and highlight a few?
oh, and z - thanks for coming over! i'm glad the article managed to hold your attention. i was afraid it might be a bit dry...

you're right, jimi - there *is* a b-17 called 'texas raider' in arizona. and it's still flight-worthy, imagine that!

What imagine me being right?
I never did go look up a web link for you, but like I said, I've seen that one at a couple of air shows.
As for the Belle, I think you could just put in some basic info like you did for the others and then use your stuff in a new entry. Don't worry about repeating yourself, I'm pretty sure that the italics don't mind it.
For example, in the not too distant past I did an entry about Fern Cliff Peninsula and then included a little blurb about it in my Ohiopyle State Park entry.

As a youngster, I made a model of a Flying Fortress out of Airfix!
Small typo:
BEcause of > Because of (in footnote 7)
Very nice entry and well researched!

zarquon: i have a number of airplane models in my room - but the only boeing craft i have is a b-29! (the rest are all fighters)
thanks, jimi - i'll go do that. what do you think of the listing of surviving b-17's? does it look ok in the article or is that like a *bit* too much?

thanks! have you previously heard of the 'belle, or is this a first time thing?
oh, by the way, jimi - i've separated the belle's story from the b-17 body. it's now at A1325008.

Loved it, I would like to point out that I too as a child assembled the Airfix B-17. it was a bit of a bugger as you needed silver paint and it was the second largest model they did at the time, the biggest was the B29 SuperFortress

thanks, third man! i myself do not have a b-17, but i *do* have a b-29. it was absolutely h*ll to assemble, though - some of the parts were submicroscopic.

Hi Farlander!
Life's been a bit busier for me over the past few months, but I'm trying to return to posting in PR as regularly as I was before.
