Roald Dahl is the favourite author from my childhood. I read the BFG & Matilda at school.
The story for Chitty Chitty Bang Bang, was actually written by Ian Fleming. It was Roald Dahl's work on the screenplays for some of the James Bond films, that led him, & several of the production crew & actors, to work on the film version.
Good article though.
