Finished!

I effected my own solutions in a couple of places (one was rejigging a sentence to avoid having to put a comma after Needles, California, by moving it to the end of a sentence) but nearly everything is has been done exactly as requested.

To the best of my knowledge, this is my absolute last read-through and edit of the whole thing (how exciting to finally be so close to finishing!)

I think most of these are converting 1xxx numbers to 1,xxx numbers, as it was pointed out in a PR thread (don't remember which one) that the comma rule applies to numbers that aren't years. I think I found them all.

There were a couple of years with apostrophes, a couple of spelling errors and a couple of last minute news-type updates.

So, here's the list, should be the last. Thanks for your patience, Six, you've been an absolute angel. smiley - angel

=========================================

The Mother Road

-Intro
2 para - "Route 66 covered 2488 miles (about 4000 kilometres)" >> 2,488 and 4,000

-The Big, The Bright and The Beautiful:

2 para - "huge men taller than buildings, painted in bright colors," >> colours

3 para - "offering 'authentic' Indian goods in Indian motif shops," >> Indian-motif

Missouri

Last para - "The Boots is now on the list of endangered road relics; the property closed in 2003 and is awaiting purchase and restoration." >> I've just learned this week that the Boots has been saved, please replace this with: "After closing in 2005, the Boots escaped demolition and has found new life as the Boots Apartments."

Oklahoma

-The First 200 Miles
Last para - "perhaps before setting out for another day on the road after a night Chandler's Lincoln Motel." >> after a night [in or at] Chandler's Lincoln Motel.

Texas

-Amarillo to Glenrio
4 para - "it is 1139 miles east to Chicago, and 1139 miles west to Los Angeles." >> 1,139 both places

New Mexico

-History of the Road
"In the late 1850's" >> 1850s

-Hungry?
2 para - "opened in the late 1980's," >> 1980s

-Rest Your Head
2 para - "The city that once boasted more than 2000 motel rooms" >> 2,000

4 para - "The historic El Vado Motel is a landmark in Albuquerque, and though it still stands (for the moment) it has been sold and was slated for demolition in late 2005(4)." >> Based on the latest news I could find, please amend this sentence to this: "The historic El Vado Motel is a landmark in Albuquerque, and though it still stands (for the moment) it has been sold and its future was in limbo as of November, 2006, while the demolition request was tied up in court."
Apparently the owner has filed his intent, but it is likely to be denied and hasn't been settled yet. Changing it means losing my footnote, though, and yet another link to my Coral Court entry (but I think there are still a few left smiley - winkeye)

-More to See and Do
"Along the way you can shop for trinkets at Tucumcari's Tee Pee Curios" >> should be TePee Curios, as it's spelled earlier in the entry, which is the correct spelling.

Arizona

-The Broken Road
3 para - "plus more than 2000 years of human history" >> 2,000

-That's a Mighty Big Hole
"3/4 mile (1219 metres) from rim to rim." >> 1,219

-Don't Forget Winona
3 para = "Williams was the last town of the entire 2400 miles to be bypassed. >> 2,400

-The Home Stretch(es)
4 para - "these days it carries the pipeline from Arizona to California" >> "it carries pipeline..." I know there was discussion about this earlier, but putting 'the' in there makes one wonder 'what pipeline?'. It's just non-specific pipeline, carrying whatever it is pipelines carry (actually it's probably water or utilities, as Needles is pretty remote), across the river.

California

-A Gruelling Trek
2 para - "Black Mountain range visible to the Southwest in Arizona" >> southwest

-The Home Stretch
6 para - "after more than 2400 miles" >> 2,400

AND - I almost forgot!
Editors, I have a couple of photos that I'd like to include on one or two of the pages if that's possible. Do I need to go through the photographers' group for that?

Actually, if anyone has an opinion, I'd appreciate knowing what photos you think might work best.

I was thinking the street sign for the main entry, and originally I liked the bluffs over the Big Piney for the Missouri page. But I have a bridge fixation and I really like the bridge pics better. There's also shots of the Elbow Inn and the Munger Moss Motel.

Or, I could get pictures of the Chain of Rocks bridge this weekend.

Fabulous - thanks so much for this. We've brought the Entries in-house now.

However, we're having problems viewing the photos on Yahoo!

Could you please possibly send a photo relating to each Entry (well, the ones you have, of course!) to h2g2Editorial? Then we'll add them pronto. smiley - oksmiley - cheers

Yes, I was going to email the photos. Let me get in contact with friends who were going to supply more and I'll try to get them to you all in one go.

Did the final edits get made?

Erm, they didn't. My apologies. Everything in my life is currently stacked in my back room as I have a carpet being fitted in my front room tomorrow morning.

I can sort of get to my laptop, but only use it standing up while leaning over a couple of other things.

Can I have them back, or are the Eds happy to make Broelan's last set of changes? It shouldn't take very long, it's just that I've had trouble being able to sit down and give it the attention it needs.

And maybe a 25 Edited Entries one, too?
