But are flame wars always bad?

Gaaa, don't even suggest such a thing. What I do is very occasionally talk to people off thread, and sometimes off site, if I feel strongly enough about whatever misunderstanding is going on.
Which I do under the auspices of 'az' - just me showing up.
I would never do such a thing under the auspices of some club set up to tell people how they should behave on site.

Gee thanks. But it also must be said that my occasional interventions don't do buggery-all. Though on occasion even 'big-guns' like blicky and SoRB have at least listened to what I had to say. Heck, I even had a long-running chat thread going with Della for awhile, trying to get her to not dislike me so much, but in the end that didn't work out.
I just do this because, like you I guess, I don't like seeing interesting threads getting derailed by petty in-fighting. Though, perhaps like sprout, the occasional *very heated* discussion (I won't say flaming) makes me want to get out the and just sit back have a good laugh.
And yeah, have always known that Leo is a girly.

Two Leos from NYC? Not unlikely I suppose.

I'm not sure whether the 'insult' threads are damaging or not. Are the participants playing, getting something out of their system in a more or less healthy way, or is it hurting them? I would have opted for the former rather than the latter on most of the ones I've seen.
<<
I don't really care if they are hurting themselves or even each other. It's the rest of us I'm concerned about.
I've seen alot of damage done by people who think their right to be rude is paramount. The Della wars being the most obvious example (unless you think over 12 months is a reasonable amount of time to get something out one's system ). The digi wars. The foxy saga. And to be honest the Forum. I can't be bothered with the place. Partly this is because I was away for four months and came back to focus more on the EG. And I have to admit that I find the quality of the debate there boring now. But I also can't be bothered with the people who either bully or who obviously don't give a shit about other people.

you get her legs, I'll get the chair, Leo has some rope, I think... here, my executive swivel chair as we don't have a throne yet

Look, I'm already the high priestess of the azcabal. Being Queen of Footinooti holds no interest for me.
And now you and lil are going all intellectual here and raising the tone so that I feel I really cannot comment further . . .
