Pheasants and tulips

Hi Hypatia...
Great article Well done!
We don't get deer eating our tulips, but the pheasants love them. The only way I know to deter them is to put wire around the plants. But since most folk have their tulips scattered au naturale over their gardens, that's a really big task - and it looks horrible. I wonder if anybody has any hints? (Other than eat the pheasants of course.)
I'm glad you don't go easy on the garlic in your recipes!

Well, they are delicious. We have the ring-necks on the prairies near here. They're beautiful birds.
I suppose you could buy grain and feed them so they won't be hungry enough to eat the tulips. I'll see if I can find out something that repels pheasants. That's the first time I've heard about that problem.

Yes, I agree: really tasty
We have ring-necks as well. You know that all pheasants come from the Himalayas originally and they have heaps of different varieties (and tastes?) there, not just the brownish ones we have here? The British 'discovered' them in India a couple of centuries ago and proceeded to transport them all over the Colonies for sport and food.
Maybe I should write a Guide Entry on pheasants.

I've seen golden pheasants. They look sort of Eqyptian. Very pretty. And there's one called a silver pheasant. Those are the only varieties I've seen. Have only eaten the ring-necks.
An article on pheasants would be great. Especially if you include recipes. With garlic.
