Probably 'Die Kinder von Bullerbü' by Astrid Lindgren. No idea what the title is in English.
I can also remember reading books by Christine Nöstlinger, no idea what was earlier.

It was something elementary school. Yes, Bullerbü is a very small village in Sweden with only 3 houses. In one lives the storyteller, a little girl of 8 years or so, can't remember her name and she has two brothers, Lasse and Bosse. In one live two sisters, Inga and something and in the last one Ole, another boy. And there are of course the parents and the people who work at the farms and later Ole gets a little sister.
They're very nice storys about how they live. It's things about drinking lemonade out of buckets after working in the fields and such things. Or once Ole gets a dog which has been mistreated by its master and so. Very nice stories.
All of them go to a very small school in a village nearby. And there's also much talk about what they do on the way to there and so.

oh yes, they're very lovely, there's also a TV series about them I've recently discovered.
They might be called 'Six Bullerby Children' in English... says wiki
