can I use guide ml in posting threads, and if not how do i get a link in?

You can't use Guide ML in threads. What do you want to link? If you want to link to a conversation in a thread then the easyist way is to copy and paste the URL, but make sure you have the http:// part in front. 
There are shortcuts, but I'm not sure what you want to link, so let me know and I'll tell you how.
For Guide entries though you just need to put the A number (such as A1123354 for example), and for user pages the U number (mine's U216863)
