The h2g2 Poem

Wishes

O, to be a politician —

Never have to make admission

Of my faults, miscalculations

Of my subtle motivations.

O, to be academician

Pontificate, with words of wisdom

Stuff their heads with erudition —

Seasoned with my own opinion.

O, that I could be a parson

Lay down law with congregation

That could never contradict me —

State their own opinions to me.

O, are there folk who envy me

With nought to do but poesy?

Dig the garden, kiss my wife,

And leave to others, all the strife?

No! I know that my condition

Is just what is suited to me.

Faith is all I need to strengthen —

All that need be added to me.
