.

It sounds really, really cool with the coolest load of people there and I am excruciatingly jealous!

Just wondering...are 13-year-olds and under allowed there or not? (It's got stuff about 14-17 year olds, so I was just wondering about those under 14. Yeah. Sorry.)

13-year-olds would be allowed at the daytime event, but I believe that you have to be 14 to attend the evening event in the pub, due to licensing laws. Large amounts of alcohol do flow at these events, you see smiley - drunk

Indeed they do - provided the bar staff can be bothered to refresh the barrels on the pumps! I had to try 3 times before getting a smiley - ale the first time and then they ran out and had NO pump smiley - ale... smiley - grr...
so I had to use my powers of persuasion to get a barrel of Titanic put on to quench my thirst with! smiley - oksmiley - cheers

That's what you get for asking for all these weird beers. If you would have gone for the lager everything would have been fine... smiley - winkeye

Well - you can get 'real' smiley - ale if you take the time and effort - but it only comes in bottles or on tap! I suppose the problem with having a decent cellar to store barrels correctly hampers them ever having pump smiley - alesmiley - sadface

We do have *other* things to keep us amused, however! smiley - winkeyesmiley - biggrin

Gnomon - time to move on

Lager?

I asked for Heineken, but they didn't stock it, so I changed to Kronenbourg, but they had run out, so I accepted Stella. But they ran out of that too, later on! smiley - ale

After all the walking about I'd done I took my shoes off, so was a bit reluctant to go upstairs to the main bar. I wish I had now! smiley - sadface

We *were* rather treated as the poor relations by the bar staff I thought. smiley - grr

Titania (gone for lunch)

I tried ordering nachos around 9.30 pm, and was told I couldn't order food downstairs, I'd have to go upstairs to do that smiley - huh Sounded odd to me, but hey ho, who knows what weird customs the Brits have?smiley - winkeye

Went upstairs, ordered nachos, and told the bartender I was sitting downstairs - and he replied 'but then you should order downstairs!'

'But I was told to order upstairs!' I replied. He got hold of someone who seemed to be a bit in charge, and that man explained that they had stopped serving food downstairs, but that I could order and eat upstairs!

I got pretty miffed and told them I wasn't interested, and went back downstairs to drown my hunger with more smiley - alesmiley - drunk

Tell me about it. They claimed that they had told me that was the case, but they most certainly had not! smiley - cross

Actually it turned out that you had to be over 18 to attend the evening do! Whoops!

Titania (gone for lunch)

Working in the hotel and restaurant business it amazed me a bit - usually you do anything to increase inhouse sales - like asking if people want a brandy with their coffee, or dessert - but these people didn't seem to be very interested in selling us as much as possible - odd...smiley - huh

It depends how you define 'under 18'

Chronologically - probably not.

Emotionally - probably.

In terms of juvenile humour - definitely.smiley - biggrin

I agree Titania and Abi!

Until I moved to Holland I worked constantly in pubs - either as a barmaid or in the food department - and we always tried to remember that we are a service industry and the customer deserves serving!

It's such a shame that they were so unaccomodating this time as it is a great venue. I bet they still made an absolute fortune out of us all despite their best endeavours not to have anything anyone wanted!

If it didn't mean you'd probably have to hunt out another convenient location I'd be inclined to write to their Head office pointing out all their shortcomings Abi!
