Don't forget Goebbels' "if you tell a lie, tell it often enough and people start to believe it."

For example: "Weapons of mass destruction, WMDs, WMDs, WMDs..."
"Iraq has Al Qaeda links, Iraq has Al Qaeda links..."

The last lie was pretty stupid. One of the goals Osama bin Laden's Islamic extremist (fascist) paramilitary network, Al Qaeda, is to overthrow all the Western-backed secular Arab tyrannies*--like the House of Saud in bin Laden's homeland--(which is good) and replace them with Islamic extremist tyrannies--like Iran, but without the weak Parliament (which is bad). Bin Laden had condemned Saddam to death at one point. And Saddam was in a US-backed, murderous way against Ayatollah Khomeini's Islamist Iran (who dare they reoplace a US-backed, murderous puppet tyrant with a non-US-backed murderous tyrant! smiley - smiley )

Bush has managed to convince some people that Saddam Hussein was behind the September 11, 2001 attacks.

*The Baathists in Iraq were backed by the West and still would be if Saddam hadn't invaded Kuwait--they'd probably be great allies in the so-called "war on terrorist". Saddam would use it to massacre Shi'ites, Kurds and political opponents in the name of "counter-terrorism"

That's what's so great about america. They've been beating that drum loud and long, and yet the only person who believes Iraq had Al-queda links is Cheney. No one else in the country does. That's the benefit of a well educated, intelligent electorate.

Indeed! I saw something to the effect that the more notice people take of Fox News, the likelier they are to believe that Iraq is linked to Al Qaeda. Sigh...
I hear that 5 British prisoners have been released from Guantanamo, and landed in the UK, and that four have been rearrested. But at least they are home - yay! smiley - peacedove

Oh that it was all good news Della, when three of the four actually get released by the British anti-terrorism officers that are holding them, they may get home to find that the streets near their homes have been decorated in quite an unfriendly way. This morning in Tipton, an area with BNP coucillors, there were effiges hanging from lamposts with signs that said "Hang the Tipton Taliban" Ive been at work all day so dont know what else has been going on, but I'll keep you posted.

Not true, crazyhorse, the people in the U.S. care very much about what's going on in Iraq. If you believe the polls, 50% or less are in favor of the war in Iraq... my own personal poll says that only about 3 out of ten people are in favor of the war.

And as for boosting the economy... that's a bunch of bull. Unemployment is up, and with the manufacturing jobs moving to other countries, it's not going to get any better soon.

I haven't heard about this deportation of people from Florida. Are you pulling my leg? I know Kerry has been in Florida, drumming up support for his campaign. It's a sore point with many Floridians, because many weren't allowed to vote in the last election.

Well, the Democrats took the high road last election year and decided not to take the recount to a higher authority. If there's a problem this year in Florida, I hope Kerry sticks to his guns. (That's assuming that the election goes that far... I'm optimistic, but that won't win the election.)

I saw in our paper today, that the four are being pursued by journalists, and there must be massive publicity about them! One of them was picked up while attending a wedding in pakistan, the paper said yesterday.
Worse news, is there are four Britons still being held at Guantanamo, the paper also said.

There was a discussion on our local radio today, about the U.S election. One guy said that Bush will be (re) elected because everyone's priority is the "war on terror" (as if it's possible to declare war on an adjective...) and the other guy said no, "It's the economy, stupid" and as Billy Crystal said on the Oscars, it's "tanking", and so Bush baby will *not* be back in power... We hope!

I was about to say that Bush is the only one interested in the war on terror, but even that's wrong - his agenda is not to eradicate terror, but continue his dad's agenda. He is out of touch with what Americans want - good jobs, better healthcare and freedom from oppression.

The ads running for Bush on the net say something like 'Bush: A foreign policy that works.' It shows me how far he's divorced from reality. His continued allegiance to Cheney, whose company (Halliburton) is about to undergo a criminal probe by the Pentagon, could be the straw that broke the camel's back.

A man said on the radio, that the bombing in Spain favours Bush, and I heard something on the radio about a tape from Al Quaeda claiming responsibility. True?

I hope not - I think there's still a lot to say... For instance, there's a repeated story on the radio here today, to the effect that someone (sorry, don't remember who) said that Iraq is on the verge of "civil war". Is it? Or is it, as Jimmy said this morning, a war against occupation?
