A Conversation for Running with Scissors

This was a good article.
But I would like to make a small observation.
The author rightly says that implants are not for those with poor oral hygiene. However, it's not food debris that's responsible for peri-implantitis, which can lead to a failed implant, it's plaque bacteria. Effective daily plaque control, using toothbrush and interdental cleaning aids such as floss/tape/bottle brushes, tips the ratio of harmless/harmful bacteria in your favour. A dental hygienist will be able to show you the tools and skills - and to explain further.
Smoking is another major factor in implants failing - many oral surgeons will not place implants in smokers.

Interesting observation about smoking. Do you know what it is about smoking that causes the problem: poor general health, poor oral health, ???
Key: Complain about this post
