Better Than Harry Potter?

I thought I should have the decency to read this, seeing as how I turned it down at the Subbing stage
What I want to know is: if I start reading them, will I become is irreversably hooked as I did on Harry Potter? Or are they just not in the same league?

Artemis Fowl is like a smart-arse 21st century Harry Potter, with lots of technology, in jokes, self-reference and toilet humour thrown in. Definitely worth reading, but not as good as Harry Potter 3 and 4.

Wasn't keen on Harry Potter 4, myself...
So where do I start? I gather there's a fair few of these books.

No, there are only two as yet, but Eoin Colfer knows a good thing when he sees one, so there'll be a few more.
The first one is called Artemis Fowl - The Eternity Code. The second is Artemis Fowl - The Arctic Incident.

Sorry, that last posting is wrong. There are two published books and another one due out in May:
1. Artemis Fowl
2. Artemis Fowl - the Arctic Incident
3. Artemis Fowl - the Eternity Code (due out 1 May 2003)

I read my first Harry Potter book about an year or so back. I can't remember if I finished reading it. I read my first Artermis Fowl this weekend. I shall be reading the series. Even when a child I used to think "When is this story coming to an end?" but the alternative to Enid Blighton was more Enid Blighton in those days.
One thing about children's stories is they don't use soft porn for filler and any violence is as non graphic as possible. Which makes them more realistic in their way. (Not that I believe in fairies that is.)
They are not Terry Pratchett but they are good enough to go on the same shelf.

I finally got around to reading the first one, last weekend at Odo's.
I'll say something for Mr. Colfer - he certainly knows how to appeal to a 12-year-old's sense of humour.
I counted no less than 6 toilet jokes.

The first Artemis Fowl is called Artemis Fowl, The Eternity Code is number three!
