In Sri Lanka one of the names for the fruit is papel.
They have a saying which translated into English goes along the lines of "From a distance it looked like an apple but when I got close I saw it's a papel."
Apples are highly prized (not being grown on the island) while papels are almost throw-away they are so common.
Unfortunately the saying is often used by young men to describe young women!
