As with any great idea or new advantage for business and consumers, there is also negatives that influence decisions.
Remember the first cordless phones that could be listened into buy any person with a scanner, from upto a long distance?

Wireless internet is in that same stage of development, 802.11a, b or c. Not a big difference on which protocol is running.
Here is a site that may open a few eyes before installing a wireless home network , and a new word for the self-proclaimed network experts. It is called Warchalking , http://www.warchalking.org/ .

I also note that there is no mention of sub-netting the router, so I am to assume that it is another facet of the topic that is not understood.
If you want any advice on sub-netting(how to install upto 253 connections from one connection), let me know. I have a degree in networking.
I would also like to comment on the problems that may arise from using a computer from the bath. Do you not realize that water/humidity and electronics do not mix well, personally I will never take any laptop into the bath unless it is a pc that deserves to drown(no Mac computer ever deserves to drown, but they hate water/humidity mix also).

If you are going to post something that is to be considered facts, give both sides of the issue.

There is no reason why PDAs can't be made waterproof, is there? I'd imagine that these will be the mobile browser platform of choice from the bathtub. Of course a more serious application is to post from the garden on a lovely sunny spring afternoon such as today and thus avoid the giveaway untanned Net- addict look smiley - winkeye

It's supposed to be a basic introduction into setting up a shared broadband connection wirelessly with maybe one or two computers, complementing bulky user manuals that would put off the majority of people. It sin't about setting up a gargantuan corporate Lan running umpteen domains, I'll leave that entry for a proper expert if one comes along. Subnetting the router isn't in the scope of the entry, how many people are going to have enough computers in their home in order to make this even remotely feasible? Not many unless your name is either Gill Bates, steve Jobs or some other person with more money than sense. WEP encryption isn't mentioned for exactly the same reasons, and anyone wanting to do that will no doubt find how in the manual or by the sound of it the entry you will no doubt write to replace this one smiley - erm

I never made any proclamations to being a network expert, neither has the author of the Networking Your Home (A592607) entry. I'm sorry that my entry hasn't met your exacting stnadards, but I believe I've done the best I can do with the knowledge I have on the topic that I've picked up from various books, magazines and webpages. Not everyone in the world is priviledged enough to do a degree in networking you know.

I was only adding my input to an article that to me seemed to be lacking in a few areas.

If you want to take your laptop into the tub go ahead. I personally think it is a very un-intelligent idea even to suggest it.

I apoligize for my lack of sensivity and inability to spell properly, but I will not apoligize for my speaking out on a half baked idea, think about what you are suggesting. I've spent a weeks pay to get my new laptop, and read that it is alright to read and send e-mail while bathing. I may be anal, retentive , and alot of other things, but I will never follow blind advice, or do something that I know is just plain dumb.

I do not mean this as anything personal, I was only pointing out some alternative views. Sorry if any toes were stepped on.

Hey don't worry about it, should be me apologising for going off on one. Wasn't feeling 100% earlier and came over all argumentative and opinionated smiley - smiley

Accepted and noted. You may want to check out the link I have provided on Warchalking. It has become very much used in urban areas, and as we all know. Free internet is the best internet.
