Henges, the human factor.

It always amazes me to consider the work involved in the construction of these henges. At a time when simple survival must have been a full time job, how were the people persuaded to do so much labour. Were they controlled by superstition and led by the nose by 'priests'? Were they driven by fear of some dictatorial chieftan and his cohorts? Or were they paid labourers? Is there anyone we can ask?
