the gospel of thomas: a quotation

Simon Peter said to [the disciples]: Let Mary be excluded from among us,
for she is a woman, and not worthy of Life. Jesus said: Behold I will take
Mary, and make her a male, so that she may become a living spirit,
resembling you males. For I tell you truly, that every female who makes
herself male will enter the Kingdom of Heaven."
is that what jesus said?

Yet another reason why I ain't going to heaven.
Did he? Sounds like something that would come out of the Church. One size fits all, androgony included. Have you got a Bible reference?

of course he didnt say that. the gospel of thomas, like the other gospels not included in the bible, is silly and fragmentary, and also written much later. the reason that they werent included is cos they have jesus saying stupid, mindless things like these. the church isnt that sinister, or that sexist. moreover, at the time when it was decided what was to go inot the bible, the churhc was still only a couple of hundred years old, and fighting for its existence. they wouldnt have converted believers with ideas like that
jesus was probably a fairly sensible man. highly charismatic, and probably had ecstatic visions (in mark somewhere, his family have to come and talk him out of something cos he was 'beside himself') whatever he was, he wasnt insane; very much in the jewish tradition, which did not rate women too highly, but not as lowly as that

Have you checked out ANYTHING that Paul wrote? It's as sexist as they come. There are hundreds of stupid and silly things in the Bible...check out Jesus and the Fig tree for starters...

i have read what paul ahd to say. happily, paul is nothing to do with jesus...he never met him, being converted after his death. he had a great impact on the church, and his interpretation of what jesus meant is sovereign. this doesnt mean its what jesus actually meant. plus, he isnt as sexist as that quote i gave you.
also, why do you have to assume that jesus actually cursed a fig tree? the current theory is that it is a misrecorded fragment of a parable that became distorted in the tunnel period: the time between jesus' death and when the gospels came to be written down (30 years or more). theres a lot in the gospels that jesus probably did do and sya. there is also a lot that he probably nearly said and meant, but that has been changed by various evangelists to fit their interpretations of him and his message. there is also a lot that he probably didnt do.
