Thank you! I now know where to find my champagne bottle size reference chart. Nevermore will I not recognise a biblical king at a pub quiz.smiley - ok

Titania (gone for lunch)

Is Buck's Fizz the same as a Mimosa? Or is there any difference between them?

We had a Methusalem for sale (with an empty bottle on display) in the bar of a hotel where I used to work - it was pretty expensive, but one night in a double room was included!smiley - biggrin

Yeah...I think Mimosa is just the Americanism for a Bucks Fizz.

Mimosa is the same as Bucks Fizz, it is also a South American plant though I don't know if that is where the name of the drink comes from.

For anyone interested there is a list of Champagne cocktails at
http://www.knowyourcocktails.com/champagne/index.html

I always thought there was a dish called eggs mimosa, but I have no idea what is in it.

Funny Methusaleh got by the eagle eyes of the Towers; it's Methuselah in the OT.

I've heard the Limoux people claim to have invented the method used in Champagne. They make a wonderful version in a little Languedoc town called Bessan, and sell it for €5 a bottle ::sigh::

I agree that the better the wine the less harm it does to the head.

Well done Gnomon! Pop! Pop!

I have heard that part of the problem with the headache caused by wines and champagnes is an added preservative. I drank red wine and cava like it was water in Spain and suffered nothing for it. I get back to the States and take two sips of champagne or cava or red wine and get a horrible headache. Quality does not seem to be a factor. Has anyone else heard this?

Gnomon - time to move on

I'll just say one word - congenors. I don't know what it means, but it is part of the problem.

Why put preservatives into wine? Isn't alcohol preservative enough?
