A Conversation for Bad Habits and How to Stop Them

I think it's something that a lot of people do. Putting off things until the last minute, or just not doing them at all. Supposedly it's caused by fear of failure, fear of success, pefectionism and a whole load of other things as well. It's a very selfdesructive thing, and can sometimes even affect those around you, that can cause you to really lose control of your life. It's kinda like a drug problem
I read the book "The Procrastinator's Handbook: Mastering the Art of Doing it Now" (hehe insert dirty joke here) by Rita Emmet. I haven't kicked the habit yet, but the book provided some good insights and tips about conquering procrastination. I've been putting off following the advice though....

Whew, sorry Salmon, I was going to respond to you the other day, but.....
Seriously, this is a major problem of mine. Consequently I spend a lot of time rushing to meet deadlines. This creates a lot of stress that could have been avoided by just doing things as soon as they come across my desk.
But now, I'm stuck. I can't do the things that came in today because I'm working on the stuff from last week.

This is a major problem of mine, too - and of the most sudents I know.
But seriously, yes it causes a lot of stress. And everytime I just managed to get something done before a deadline or managed to slipped it in afterwards, I tell myself that I will stop procrastinating.
Well, till the next time something is due...

Procrastination caused me to get much lower grades in school than I was capable of. I would put off assignments until the last minute or just not do them. I could always find an excuse not to do homework. It's a good thing I have and excellent memory for the written word so I always did well on tests.

Seriously procrastination is not a good habit, I do it all the time and have actually made myself ill - not sleeping for almost a week so you can hand a report in on time is not worth it. What I do now is set myself a earlier deadline and if I meet it I buy myself something. It's simple but it works (might end up skint, but that's another problem).

That sounds like myself this morning. I had to give a paper this afternoon and I finished the written hand-out about an hour before I had to go. It did go amazingly well, by the way. I'm still a little "high" from it.

I meant to write this a few hours ago, but I had something less important to do .
Just a suggestion - no hurry - but there is an H2G2 Procrastinators Club for you to join (when you get round to it, of course). I haven't mastered the art of providing a thread (maybe I'll do that one day), so you'll have to search for it.
If you do display an interest, one day, in due course, perhaps Gosho will even acknowledge that, but don't hold your breath - (s)he's a very busy person avoiding more pressing activities.
