The Great British Breakfast

Up here you can normally get it presliced and packed (in the usual meat section with all the other sausage and black pudding and grill packs), or you can go to the meat counter and purchase a block of it. I have never tried any of the frozen stuff so I cannot say how it will be. Of course the best place to get it from is the local cornershop butcher Until later...

Why do you need all these separate pans? Just one big frying pan will do - the meat can be done first & kept warm in the oven. The fried bread should be done last (to prevent it going limp). Make sure you have a mixture of oil & butter in the pan - the butter gives flavour & colour but will burn without the oil. Turn the heat up pretty high and keep an eye on the bread as it cooks - it will suddenly be done. Oh & it should be white of course.
Pandapig - I agree that white makes the best fried (& toasted) bread, while brown is best for sandwiches (except marmalade ones). Anyway, to solve the mould problem, simply buy pre-sliced bread and keep it in the freezer. Then you can defrost as many slices as you require on demand.

as an american (i know, i'm sorry) college student, the majority of my brekkies consist of either nothing, cereal with milk, or leftover pizza. the best breakfast i ever had was when i was visiting friends in england. we were staying in acocks green near birmingham and went for breakfast at a hole-in-the-wall called The Cabin, where we had what they called a He-Man's breakfast. it was your basic giant GBB, and it was to die for.

Mom used to fry bread for us at home when my broter and I were kids. You are right - the best is with white bread. She'd fry up the bacon in the cast iron frying pan, then toss in bread slices in the bacon grease and fry it till it was nicely browned. With home-made jam M-m-m-m-m-m!!! I've done it with brown bread, and itss - nice - but just not the same.
In the Navy we got heated canned tomatoes for breakfast - and called it red lead.

Good reminder though...fried bread is definitely best done in a post-bacon frying pan....mmmmm. Hold the jam.

My daughter always leaves a slice of pizza for breakfast in the morning if she's had one the night before
