We Americans share the trait of culinary ineptitude with our cousins across the Atlantic. After all, the only truly "American" dishes are a pair of processed meats, each named after a town in Germany (Frankfurt and Hamburg, for those who needed help).

Up until recently the NZ curry was a sorry thing, basically mince with some raisins and a teaspoon of "curry powder".
Truly unique Kiwi cuisine includes the hangi (meat and veg, wrapped and cooked underground in a heated pit), pavlova (regardless of what the Aussies tell you).
Experiments with the Lamburger were innovative but doomed to fail.
BTW I'm linking this Entry on the h2g2 Historical Society!
