Interesting observations. Am I the only one (Brit) who thinks he sounds a little bit British, or at least "patrician American"?

James Earl Jones does have an affected accent. I believe it comes from voice training he used to overcome his rather pronounced stuttering. When he was younger his stuttering troubled him greatly. He took acting classes to help him over come this problem. He says he still as to think carefully about what he's saying today to keep from stuttering. This deliberate style in his speech is what makes his voice so impressive and recognisable today. As anyone who watches CNN knows.
