Perfectly timed for Armistice day/veterans' day

paulh, the apocalypse is coming, it's just late

Thursday is Nov. 11, the anniversary of the end of World War I.

It saddens me that this lovely piece, which debuted in 200 with the hope of no more wars, had its hopes dashed on 9/11/2001. Twenty years later, we are just barely out of Afghanistan, and the president who got us out is being criticised for doing so.

I meant 2000, not 200. In 200, -Septimius Severus fought with Didius Julianus to become Roman emperor. Every twelve years after that, there was new violence in the Empire smiley - bruised.
