A Conversation for Dr Creep, Ohio Horror Host

A few little things to point out on the article

Post 1

Thanks for a nice entry on my good friend and business partner Barry Hobart aka Doctor Creep. There are a few inaccuracies that you may want to edit.

1) Paragraph 1 - you state that horror hosts present horror films which have "passed in to the public domain". Not entirely true. When Shock was on the air in the 1970s and 80s, they paid for the rights to run films like the Universal Monster package or the Hammer Films or Toho movies. When we brought Creep back on the air in the 1990s, we were forced to use public domain films. Current hosts such as Elvira pay for the rights to use the films.

2) Paragraph 2 - Clubhouse 22 didn't run on Saturday mornings but ran weekly in the afternoons (around 3 PM) Mondays to Fridays.

3) Also Paragraph 2 - Abbott and Costello Meets Frankenstein was never public domain. See # 1 above.

4) Paragraph 3 - the show wasn't cancelled due to "risque and adult-oriented comedy". The show was originally presented live but after the 1980 Halloween Party which can be seen on the Best of Shock Theatre DVD, when a flasher appeared on the show, the management at WKEF decided to require that the show be taped and that the tape be reviewed by management before the episode aired. What led to Shock Theatre's cancellation in 1985 was the decision by WKEF to cancel all local programs (Clubhouse 22, Shock Theater, the afternoon movies, etc.) except for sports and news in order to save money. They were going through a rough time and felt they had to cut back. They were also showing more network programming at that point of time so programming space was being taken up by national shows.

5) Paragraphs 4 and 5 - Barry stopped making public appearances after his health failed in 2010. The last public appearance that he did was at Foy's Halloween Shop in Oct of 2010. In January of 2011, after suffering from massive strokes in December of 2010, he passed away.

Once again, thank you for the wonderful right up. I just felt I had to correct a few issues.
