Excellent history of an automotive icon well done smiley - biggrin

You may have missed only one aspect. They were used by very successfully by british police forces as chase cars and motorway patrol vehicles, mainly the Jaguar XF (these cars had the rear seats removed to shed weight and allow space for emergency equipment.
They also had the added advantage of being able to keep up with anything else on the road and catch it!
It was a testament to the car that car was found durable and reliable and lasted in service for years.

Good point about Police Cars - they do need to be high performance in a number of ways smiley - ok These days in my area, the constabulary favours Vauxhalls, but there's also some Fords, Land Rovers and BMWs in their fleet smiley - ok

According to a 2015 FOI request, there are 3 Skodas, 4 BMWs, 4 Mercedes Sprinters, 37 Fords (Fiesta, Focus, Modeo, Transit and Connect), an Iveco, Vauxhall Astra, Volkswagen Transporter and a police Land Rover on the Isle of Wightsmiley - bluelight
