Hi BigAl. Long time. Most people thing of our sun as being yellow but the light from it is actually they same white as clouds or the moon, just a lot brighter. It's strongest in the green part of the spectrum but doesn't look green.
The green flash is probably the only time we actually see the greenness of the sun.

Hi Gnomon, 'long time". Yes. I do look in from time to time but RL has prevented me from contributing anything. on holiday this week and, for once, don't have a multitude of w*rk-based tasks to accomplish!

The green flash is basically a mirage (like you might see over a hot road) caused by the bending of the sun's light through the atmosphere.
