I disagree. I've watched it. And I've started to encourage everyone I know to watch it, on the basis that I don't see why I should be the only one to suffer.
Strictly speaking, of course, one should watch Star Wars first (I refuse to call it "A New Hope", it was called Star Wars when I watched it, it's called Star Wars, dammit), then get *almost* falling down drunk, then watch the Holiday Special.
Getting very, very drunk first has a number of positive effects.
(1) you're a lot more forgiving of how diabolically poor it is
(2) you're a lot less critical of how batshit insane it is
(3) the chronologically first appearance of Boba Fett appears even cooler for some reason
(4) it's nice to know you're in the same state Carrie Fisher was when it was filmed...
(5) there's a reasonable possibility you'll wake up after the experience having forgotten a good deal of it.
