A Conversation for 'The Hobbit' by JRR Tolkien

I was lucky enough to be given 'The Hobbit' when I was very young, and I loved it. It had Tolkien's drawing of Smaug pierced by an arrow on the cover...about time someone wrote a good entry on it.
The depth of character in the book far surpasses most of the fantasy being written today - Gollum's conflicting natures were evident even then.

Oh, and I hope you don't mind me pointing out: "and looses nothing when read as a self-contained fantasy novel"

Thanks for the praise, but as far as the points for amendment go you'll have to shoot the sub-editor.
