h2g2 The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy: Earth Edition

The Edited Guide settles for less than the standards we should all aspire to. Its Guidelines stifle writing excellence, and its emphasis on inclusivity has the effect of forcing us all into the same kind of mediocrity.

Here's the Entry I originally wrote. It's much better than the adapted and compromised one that appeared on h2g2's Front Page and will now enter the Edited Guide. Why is the original better? Because it says what I meant to say, in the way I meant to say it. It includes the personal experience, and it develops the account in a more natural story-telling style.
