A Conversation for Cross-country Skiing

Cross Country Skiing

Post 1

Can anyone tell me where I can get lessons for Cross Country Skiing. I live in the Derbyshire area and can find nowhere advertising lessons in this sport.

I have recently returned from Whistler having been a "spectator" to others enjoying this sport and have decided next time I will be right in there with the rest of the people enjoying themselves - however, the big challenge at present is to find somewhere that gives lessons.

Any help will be greatly appreciated,

You don't need training for cross country skiing Classic Style just go and have a lesson and you are away.
I am 71 and my wife 72 and we visit Chamonix a lot to see our family there. I started a little downhill skiing but found it scary and my wife was not at all interested. We watched people of all ages cross country skiing, or ski de fond as the French call it,and watched our 5 year grand daughter do it as part of her school activities. She persuaded us to have a go!
On returning to Devon we purchased a set of Nordic Walking poles and practised over the hills here to get used to using poles to help you along and to get fit.
On our next trip to Chamonix we borrowed our daughter's skis etc and went to the Ski de Fond Centre for a one hour lesson on their track - about 40 euros for us both I think.
We were hesitant at first but went every day for and hour or so and after 8 days were gliding along and covering 8/9 klms. It was great and we felt so fit. We used 3 different tracks round Chamonix including some gentle down hill sections which were fantastic.
Can't wait to get back out for another go and possibly after a while take up the skating style which is faster and harder but looks good
Best of luck
