A Conversation for Ferengi Rules of Acquisition

The 34th Rule

If anyone's interested there's a great Star Trek novel by Armin Shimerman (who plays Quark in DS9) called 'The 34th Rule'.

I didn't think I'd like it, being mainly about Ferengi, but it was great. It sort of gives you a Ferengi's eye view. It is really well written, and even makes you feel sorry for the Ferengi in places.

Moral of the story I think is, don't judge another culture by your own culture's standards.

Armin Shimerman also wrote a sort of guide to the Rules of Acquisition which included a short Ferengi Parable for each rule.

What did you think of The Rules of Acquistion? Is it good?

He's also written a series of novels that are non-trek.
1. The Merchant Prince
2. Outrageous Fortune
3. Capital Offence
I quite enjoyed the first two, but the third lost me.

The Rules of Acquisition were excellent, very very funny stuff. Obviously not a solid plot line like the other novels, just a series of shorts. However they are very funny shorts, well worth the read.

I do know his Merchant Prince series and I read the first book, which I really liked. Unfortunately I haven't been able to find the other two. I'm going to try getting them in ebook format, hopefully they'll have ‘em there.

Good luck. If you find them, let me know what you think of the other two.
I notice you're from New York City. Your public library has them.
