Biologically speaking, a "turd" is far from inhospitable, as the article itself mentions. Perhaps we can extend the metaphor to have this aesthetically and olfactorily unattractive but, er, wholesome habitat represent the "poor but honest" background that instills the future blossom with morals, values, and the knowledge of how important hard work is and how to do it?
